Toddler Shocked to Find Out Grandma Not on Paw Patrol
Three-year-old Mason Capelli threw himself into a frenzied temper tantrum for 20 minutes upon the mind-altering realization that his maternal grandmother with whom he chats on Zoom every Saturday at 10 am is not in fact another character on Paw Patrol.
“She’s Mayor Ridgeway’s mom, and Skye and Zuma saved her from the broken boat!” he exclaimed upon the gentle revelation from Mason’s mom that Linda Katzman is in fact a member of their extended family.
“You stop! That’s not fair!” a resistant Mason yelled back at his mom after throwing part of his peanut butter and jelly sandwich on her shirt.
The natural inclination of the toddler to associate his grandmother with the feisty, fearless pups from Adventure Bay is not unfounded, however.
“We tell Mason that as a reward for talking to Grandma for so long over the computer on Zoom that he gets to watch an episode of Paw Patrol afterward on the same device,” mom Laura Capelli clarified. “I think he just mixed the two media up in his head together. It’s understandable. The last time he saw her pre-Covid he was 20 months old, and he just doesn’t grasp that she’s actually a human being.”
Ms. Capelli noted that she will soon begin weekly lessons with her son, presenting images of family members and tv characters so he can distinguish between the two. “I just hope understanding the difference between real and imaginary people isn’t as hard as potty training,” she sighed.
As of press time, Mason is nearing the end of an extended timeout, the result of throwing his Paw Patrol figurines Chase, Everest, and Rocky in the toilet.
